What an awesome freezing cold day with an awesome freezing cold windchill! We hit downtown Youngstown today in spite of the cold, snow, and windchill. A wooden cross, five guys (Al, Dan, Mike, Rich and I) and a bunch of gospel tracts, hoping to make a difference and impact someone's life with the gospel. My pastor (Dan) made it out today. I told him later that he didn't have to come or feel obligated to do this but he blessed me when he said that he wanted to come and that it was a privilege to join us in our insanely cold endeavor to try to reach a few souls for the Lord. Also, an ex-boxer came with us by the name of Al. He was eager to carry the cross.
We have no idea what God is speaking to people as they drive by and see someone carrying a cross down the sidewalk. I'm sure He is dealing with hearts. So many times, people come over to us and ask us questions. That always opens the door to share the Word of God with them.
Hey, where are the Mormon missionaries on such a nice day? Or the Jehovah's Witnesses?
Anyhow, we made a trek throughout the downtown area and then decided to go up to the YSU (Youngstown State University) area. Students were walking around all over the place and we went through many gospel tracts and ran out. We talked to a few people in the downtown area but it was more of a "just carry the cross kind of day." Most people don't like to stand out in the cold very long and talk but I'm sure much seed was planted. The fellowship with my brothers in Christ was good and enjoyable and I would have been content with just that but I know the Holy Spirit was working behind the scene dealing with people's hearts bringing them one step closer to a real commitment in Christ. Heaven is going to be great.

A lot of people want to go into missions in other countries but have never preached in the good ole USA. What do you think of Mission Field America? I like that. Maybe I will use that name. I have come to the conclusion that if we don't preach the gospel in its entirety and do it soon, that America will end up like the UK where only 1% now go to church regularly. Trumbull County, Ohio, where I live is down to 50% that even go to church. The UK (United Kingdom) was where we are at now forty years ago. It only took one generation for them to go into apostasy. I hope this registers with some of you.
I heard some recent statistics that are alarmingly ridiculous - that there are as many as 200 million Christians in the USA out of 300 to 330 million. I think we need to redefine what a true Christian is. If you go out preaching on the streets, in the malls, or anywhere else, you will see that maybe 1% to 5% tops in this country even know what the gospel is. They are supposedly saved but have no idea really what the gospel message is. Does anyone else out there see something wrong with this picture?
So what is the gospel? Most use the generic term, "good news". True in its most generic sense but the gospel is really the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (kerygma). This brings me to the more important question.
So what is the preaching of the gospel? It's really not that hard to figure out. All one has to do is see how Jesus preached and what He said and to read the book of Acts. Traditions die hard and the church in America has created many traditions that you cannot find in the Bible.
